As part of the ongoing commemoration of the centenary of the 1914-1918 Great War (World War I) our group is researching the histories of 48 men who gave their lives and whose names are listed on the war memorials in Northwood and Gurnard churches.
.
We hope to produce a booklet for sale through church and community outlets with the proceeds going to the British Legion and Help the Heroes.
.
Quite a lot has already been discovered but if you have any information about these men, especially photographs and family stories then please can you contact Hazel Pullen at 86 Wyatts Lane, Cowes PO31 8PY or email at hazelf86@hotmail.com or Tel: 01983 281250.
.
The names can be viewed online at the Memorials and Monuments of the Isle of Wight website reference:
www.isle-of-wight-memorials.org.uk/towns/northwood.htm
(There is a permanent link to the website on this Northwood Village website’s Local Links page.)
.
There will also be a small exhibition by the group on the history established to date, at Northwood House on 8th and 9th November 2014 between the hours of 10.00 and 16.00.
.
Cowes Heritage will also be exhibiting some content from their “Decade of Change 1910-1920” exhibition.
