Northwood W.I. Report for 7th January 2016 held in Northwood W.I. Hall.

Mrs Fay Bunday welcomed members to the first meeting of the year by wishing them a Happy New Year.
.
Several apologies and updates were given on members who are not well.
.
Members were told of the sad passing of Mrs P Hunter. She was a lovely lady who will be missed very much by us all. A card signed by members has been sent to her family.
.
Birthday cards were given to Wendy Hume whose birthday is on the 27th and Sheila Chaplow’s card was sent to her as her birthday was on the 5th.
.
Minutes of the last meeting were on the table for members to read and these would be signed at the end of the afternoon.
.
Cups were presented to the members who have the most points in the various competitions. They are Elisabeth Hamilton for the various competitions and best garden bloom and Annie Cooper won the cookery cup. Unfortunately Annie wasn’t at the meeting but this will be presented to her at the next meeting.
.
The next Art & Craft afternoon will be held on the 21st January.
.
The Secretary, Treasurer and Hall bookings gave their reports.
.
We have raised £106.85p for The IOW Young Carers Association.
.
There will be a Jumble Sale on 23rd January and several members offered to help.
.
Our 90th Birthday Lunch is being held on the 26th January at the New Holmwood Hotel. This is the date when Northwood WI was first formed.
.
There is to be a Lunch & Games on the 17th March.
.
Members were given slips of paper and asked where they would like to go on an outing this year. No decision has been taken.
.
At the next meeting we have Sarah Hagan from the Health Food Shop in Cowes giving us a talk on Healthy Eating. The Competitions will be 4 Rock Cakes and BGB.
.
After a break for tea, the competitions winners being announced for a Fancy Scarf – 1st Josie White, 2nd Elisabeth Hamilton, 3rd Fay Bunday (There were 6 entries in total. There were no Blooms.
.
Mrs Janet Price was our speaker giving a talk on her Life with a Guide Dog. It was a very interesting talk. Janet lost her sight at the age of 16 and went to Torquay to a Blind Home, where she learnt various skills. She has had several guide dogs. Janet has various “Gadgets” to help her with her lifestyle. Mrs Elisabeth Hamilton gave the vote of thanks.
