Hello there,
.
This is a bit of a long shot but I was wondering if anyone might be able to help with my query about Bridget Lakin, daughter of Cyril Lakin, Conservative MP, Literary Editor of the Sunday Times and Daily Telegraph and broadcaster on the BBC Home Service during the second world war.
.
I noticed that a Bridget Lakin was mentioned in one of the articles in the T.C. Hudson section of this website, from 2011 in connection with an item about Edmund Peel – “Who Remembers Edmund Peel?”
.
I know that the Lakins spent many holidays on the Isle of Wight and that Bridget moved there around 2002. I wonder if this could be the same one? I would be most grateful for any information anyone may have.
.
I’m a writer researching political and literary figures of the 1930s and it is clear that Cyril Lakin was well-connected to a range of interesting people, though his full story has not been told before. I’m also related to the Lakins! Cyril was my uncle’s uncle. Remarkably little is known about him among existing family members in Wales (other than that he was a Conservative MP for a brief period). I was actually alerted to his earlier activities while looking at George Orwell’s role as war-time BBC Talks producer.
.
As I say, it may be a long shot but would be grateful for any information anyone may have.
.
Many thanks.
.
Best wishes
Geoff Andrews
