Saturday 20th May 2017 in St John the Baptist church, Northwood was a day full of fun, laughter and hundreds of balloons! Hosting their inaugural Balloon Festival, a free event for the public and a first also for the Island, the church welcomed over 400 people to see the wonderful creations made by Claire Gobel from Twisted Inflations as well as enjoying a magical performance by Andy Vance and a visit from Belle and Batman from Enchanted Isle. A bouncy castle was also kindly donated by ITS tools.
.
The amazing balloon sculptures included a vicar, a bride and groom, an organist, a 6ft angel suspended in the bell tower, a baby in the font and a stunning Noah’s ark with 12 pairs of animals, which was donated to the Children’s ward at St Mary’s hospital after the event. The idea came from Tressa Lambert of East Cowes, a parishioner of Northwood church, who saw something similar whilst on holiday in Cumbria. The day was completed with a wonderful concert by Wight Harmony barbershop singers.
.
Rev’d Amanda Collinson, vicar of Northwood church, said ‘It was such a fantastic day. Everyone was so surprised and delighted to see the great balloon designs, Noah’s Ark was certainly the favourite, especially with the children. With the smell of popcorn filling the air and smiley painted faces filling the church, the whole event was a great success.’
.
We would like to extend a big thank you to all those who attended and those who were involved in the huge success of the Festival.
.
With special thanks to all the volunteers who helped on the day and those who supplied cakes. Also to Wight Harmony barber shop singers.
