The Friends of Northwood Church was formed in 2008 to raise funds to support the repair and enhancement of the fabric of the church. The organisation is independent of the church. The official Church of England authorities have no right or claim to the funds raised by the Friends which are to be used only for this purpose. Being a non-church affiliated body also makes the Friends eligible for funding from sources which are not available to religious bodies.
.
Membership of the Friends is open to anyone interested in helping to maintain this beautiful historic building which has survived in the local community for over 800 years. Leaflets including membership forms for the Friends of Northwood are available in the church. The cost of keeping such an old building in good repair is enormous. Over the years the Friends have been able to contribute significant sums towards preserving it for future generations. We are enormously grateful to everyone who has supported the Friends as members and through giving up time to organise and participate in fund-raising activities and everyone who has generously contributed to the Friends.
.
Unfortunately after nearly ten years the continued survival of the Friends is now in doubt. We urgently need replacements for the Chairman, Vice Chair and Secretary. At the last Annual Meeting of the Friends in July 2017 Paul Hutchings (Chairman) and Jacquie Pearce (Secretary) announced their intention of stepping down from the Committee of the Friends at the next Annual Meeting in July 2018 after 5 and 9 years of service respectively. Liz Mackenzie (Vice Chair) also stood down with immediate effect.
.
If the Friends are to continue to support the maintenance of this lovely ancient church we must find a new Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary by the next Annual Meeting (Tuesday 10th July at 7pm in the church). If no suitable candidates are forthcoming, the Annual Meeting will be forced to resolve that the Friends be wound up. This would be very sad given all the time and effort which has gone into keeping the organisation going since it was originally founded.
.
We need people who are keen, energetic and practical to take the Friends forward, good at motivating others, especially developing and organising fundraising activities to enable the Friends to continue to fulfil its original purpose of supporting and preserving this wonderful historic building.
.
If you would be interested in taking on one of these roles (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary), please could you email nneditor@northwoodvillage.org.uk.
