Last March, I embarked on a five to six-year research programme for a series of booklets, as well as a more detailed book, in aid of Church funds, to be written on the Rectors and Curates of St Mildred’s Church, Whippingham, during the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
.
I am currently gathering information on Reverend Walter Edwin Longney (1877-1961), who was Priest-in-Charge at Whippingham from 1948-1954 during his retirement years. He was, as some senior members of your congregation may already know, Rector of St John the Baptist, Northwood, for sixteen years from 1931 to 1947, when he officially retired.
.
I already have much information on Reverend Longney taken from various primary and secondary sources, but I would be extremely grateful and appreciative to hear of any readers of the ‘Northwood News’ who may have reminiscences, memories or photographs of him.
.
I can be contacted at St Mildred’s Church, by telephone 01983 528424,
or by e-mail: broughton_chris@btinternet.com
.
Thank you so much.
.
Chris Broughton.
