President Elisabeth Hamilton opened the meeting and wished members a Happy New Year.
Elisabeth then handed over to our speaker, Community Chef Paul Rogers, who gave a cookery demonstration of 4 dishes: Chinese Chicken and Mushroom Soup, Cumberland Kidneys on toast, Spiced Salmon with Puy Lentils and Quick Mille Feuille dessert. He spoke on the importance of eating a healthy diet. There were some lovely samples of the food for us to taste.
After a break for a cup of tea birthday cards were distributed, correspondence, hall news and finances were given. Trophies were presented for the last year’s winners of the competitions. Best Garden Bloom was won by June Burden, Cookery by Joan Furnell and the Trophy for the monthly raffle went to Denise Hunter. Arrangements for a ramble and art and craft afternoon were made along with a visit to the Mayflower Theatre to see “Rock You” and venues will be looked into for our Birthday Lunch in April.
Brenda Jackson from the Isle of Wight Air Ambulance came and accepted a cheque for just over £151. They were our Charity for 2010.
The monthly competition winners were – Cookery Anne Jonas and Best Garden Bloom June Burden. The meeting closed at 4pm.
