In the absence of the President, Mary Chick welcomed members to the meeting, also two visitors – Joan Finch our WI Advisor and Maureen Hall from Staffordshire. Sadly Gwyneth Barnard has passed away and we were asked to think of her whilst singing Jerusalem.
Various correspondence was read and members were brought up to date with news of the damp-proofing in the hall.
Forthcoming events are Table Top Sale on the 16th October, Ramble/Art & Craft with a Fish and Chip lunch on the 28th October. Christmas Fair in November and Christmas Lunch in December.
Lynne Clarke our speaker is from Waste Disposal and gave a very interesting talk on how our waste is disposed of, and brought us up to date with what can be put in the Black Box. This now takes magazines, as well as newspapers, catalogues both glued and stapled but not yellow pages as the yellow causes problems. Even though we put cardboard and plastic in our black bags these are then sorted by machinery and turned into fuel. Cooking Oil can go into our bags but preferably soaked into newspaper. There are Oil banks at the Civic Amenity sites for engine oil.
Jacquie Pearce gave the vote of thanks.
