A message from The Rev’d Diana Netherway, Parish Deacon and Assistant Curate of St John the Baptist Church, Northwood – February 2012

On behalf of the Church Family at St John The Baptist, I wish you all a belated but very Happy New Year.
|
It has been only a few weeks since Rev’d Lyn McRostie left for Aussie. Lyn was the last in a mass exodus from the church between September and November 2011. We also bid farewell to Rev’d Keith Adlam, Rita Goddard, and Archdeacon Caroline Baston, all of whom have contributed greatly to the life and ministry of Church and Community. In each case their departure came rather suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving us anxious and concerned about how we’d manage without them.
But we need not have worried, because our ‘Knight in Shining Armour’ Rev’d Roger Whatley has made it his duty, with the support of the churchwardens, to ensure that all aspects of church life including the worship, pastoral care, and support in the wider community will continue to take place according to plan. And indeed it has.

On 10th December the Christingle / Toy Service showed the generosity of folk who gladly donated gifts and cash to Frontline for needy families in the Cowes area. All the services held over the Christmas period were well attended and greatly enjoyed by all. Not least the Crib Service on Christmas Eve which saw a record attendance of 70 or so adults and children re-enacting the events of Bethlehem 2000 years ago.

We are fast approaching Lent now which begins with Ash Wednesday on 22nd February. So get ready to have your fill of pancakes on Shrove Tuesday 21st.

Rev’d Roger has already won our hearts, but as much as we’d love to, we can’t keep him forever.
|
So instead, we’ll make the most of his ministry among us as we look forward to facing with him all the challenges ahead of us in 2012.
