For bitterness she’d caused –
the hurt done to my kin –
I knew I should abhor
that woman lost in sin.
But as we danced I could
not hate – recalled no deed
of shame – for she was grace
personified, quite freed,
it seemed, from Newton’s Law
of Gravity, so light
of foot she was, and gay
at heart, that unique night
she softly sang the waltz
tune’s trite refrain, and I,
in harmony, forgot
the past, not queried why,
my injured kin betrayed, ah me,
I’d lost all animosity.
