Unheralded she came, returning to
old haunts – of yachts an Aphrodite or
a sea princess – no appellations these
to touch upon hyperbole.
For thirty years neglected, now
restored to ride her native element,
she stirs emotion with the sleek
perfection of her hull, the eight
and forty metres of her mast – the vast
and awesome spread of sail evoking here,
in our Medina’s safe untroubled flow,
the pageantry of glorious and long
departed days when she and sister ships
would challenge Westward and Britannia in
a pastime fit for kings.
