NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH REPORT
(John Pullen, Tel: 01983 281250; Email: pullenjd@hotmail.co.uk)
There have been no reports of criminal damage, assaults or burglaries during January. The Cowes Safer Neighbourhood Police Team are pleased to report that the crime figures overall for Cowes, Northwood and Gurnard were down 23% compared to the same period last year.
PCSO Steve Oatley has been appointed to provide help on Crime Prevention, to any vulnerable person living in Northwood. A list is being compiled of residents who may benefit from a visit by Steve. If you know someone who might benefit, please let me know. Steve is anxious that his visit will not be intrusive, but to give reassurance and advice. Also there will be information from Trading Standards on how to deal with cold callers and the Lions “Message in a Bottle” container which helps responding emergency services locate personal medical information.
Hampshire and IW Police have launched Operation Nemesis, which is targeting burglaries, as burglaries have increased since the recession. As yet, Northwood remains unaffected, but the police advice is to be aware and report incidents.
Chief Constable Alex Marshall announced the campaign which aims to cut the number of burglaries and bring more burglars to justice.
We have had another incident of Cold Calling. This time it was energy providers, N-Power. This was reported and we strongly recommend you do not let anyone cold calling into your home. Please report incidents to me, and I will pass on details. I have a small supply of No Cold Calling window stickers if anybody needs one.
A bus shelter in Nodes Road was vandalised in February. This vandalism is very annoying, particularly as the Community Partnership are in the process of providing seating. A terracotta pot was stolen from Oxford Street during the early hours of 11th February. If you have information contact the police.
Please ring me if you are interested in timers, bulbs or recycling bins.
