NEXT MEETINGS AT NORTHWOOD W.I. HALL
Northwood Community Partnership AGM, 7.45pm, Tuesday 28th April 2009
Northwood Community Partnership, 7.45pm, Tuesday 26th May 2009
ONE MILLION BLOOMS
I’m sure that it has not gone unnoticed the hard work put in by the Northwood Gnomes in the new One Million Bloom Schemes which appeared during April. Many thanks to Colin and Eileen Palmerton, John Pullen and particularly Roger Mazillius for their seemingly backbreaking efforts in the past few weeks! The village looks stunning due to their hard work and I know their efforts are very much appreciated.
NORTHWOOD VILLAGE TRAIL
Northwood Village Trail which encompasses almost 18 km(!!) of footpaths within the village has now been walked. The Trail itself is a loop connecting most of the village’s footpaths stretching from Parkhurst Forest in the west, to Northwood Cemetery in the east. The trail can be picked up from anywhere in the village and will comprise four smaller loops. Best of all the trail links two of the Island’s finest public houses, namely The Traveller’s Joy and The Horseshoe Inn!
Once the weather improves, the trail will again be walked with an audit of improvements for way-marking. If you are interested in joining the next walk please let me know.
NORTHWOOD WELCOME PACKS
Alan Chick is collating ideas for the Northwood Welcome Pack. It is planned that all new residents moving into Northwood will receive a pack advising them of services available in Northwood. If you have any suggestions contact Alan on 01983 296020 or by email: alanchick@tiscali.co.uk
FRIENDS OF NORTHWOOD CEMETERY
The Friends of Northwood Cemetery have been busy cutting down a 10ft high hedge that has obscured the view of the Victorian chapels from the cemetery’s entrance, clearing 150 years of undergrowth. Following clearance of the area Andrew Turner MP, laid the first turf.
The ‘Friends’, which comprises over 150 members held their first AGM on 31st March, a year after its inauguration in 2008. The web-site www.friendsofnorthwoodcemetery.org.uk contains merchandise, details of all its 16,500+ burials as well as images and biographies of some of the people interred there.
Projects for the future include restoration of the Cemetery’s Chapels and further Nature Conservation work to ensure the grounds remain an asset for future generations to enjoy. If you are interested in joining, please contact Jon Matthews on 01983 247498.
