A ‘COWES AT PLAY’ exhibition is being staged by Cowes Heritage from 6th to 28th October 2007 at Cowes Combined Yacht Clubs’ headquarters in Bath Road, Cowes.
The history of over ten leisure activities in Northwood, Gurnard and Cowes will be featured, including amateur theatricals, sports, boy Scouts events and carnivals.
Some of the exhibits reach back 100 years or so, including a picture of the first musical staged by Cowes Operatic and Dramatic Society in 1898 and written accounts of the formation in 1909 of Cowes Golf Club. The Scout movement – which is celebrating its centenary this year – gets an extensive showing, along with its Guides, Cubs and Brownies offshoots. There is also a display devoted to past carnival and village May Queen processions.
The exhibition, the sixth staged by Cowes Heritage, will be open daily, 10.00am – 4.00pm, and ADMISSION IS FREE.
