The Cowes to Newport cycle track will re-open on Friday 11 December following extensive works to improve drainage along the popular route.
The work to resolve flooding, sometimes up to a depth of 1m in places, has taken longer than expected as the work required was more extensive than first thought. The wet weather has also delayed progress meaning some work will take place after the cycle track re-opens, but it will not impact on users of the track.
Peter Hayward, Isle of Wight Council Head of Highways and Transport said: "The team has worked really hard to make sure that we are able to re-open the track on Friday despite some atrocious weather. Although the works to resolve the drainage problems along the track are not quite complete, the remaining elements can be finished while the track is open and it will be good to get cyclists back on the route. I'm pleased that we have been able to get these works done now which will make sure that the track remains passable throughout the winter."
