Gatcombe & Chillerton Scarecrow Festival 2011

The

Gatcombe and Chillerton Scarecrow Festival was born in 2010.

So successful was the event that it won the prestigious top GOLD award in the Access For All category of the Beautiful South Tourism Awards, staged by The Tourist Board.

I am pleased to be able to announce that we are holding another festival this year, which will commence at midday on Saturday 28th May and run until the following Saturday 4th June.

Last year we had a staggering 97 scarecrows of all sizes and shapes, featuring such characters as Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, Dr Who, along with his Tardis and a dalek. Jimmy Hendrix put in an appearance, as did Upsey Daisy from the Night Garden etc.

This year we hope to have over 100 scarecrows on show in peoples' gardens and on Chillerton green etc. Refreshments will also be available from our village Hall in the centre of Chillerton, so in the words of Worzel Gummidge, why not pop in for “A Cup of Tea and a Slice of Cake”.

If you don’t wish to get out of your car and have a look around, most of the scarecrows can be viewed just by driving past. There will be road signs in place to point you in the right direction.

And the best thing of all is that it is totally FREE, so come along and see us.
