Number of birds recorded reaches 79

I recently acquired a nearly complete set of back issues of the IOW Bird Report. Having been through every record I am able to add three species to our list: ‘Tundra’ Bean Goose, Peregrine and Waxwing. This brings the total to 79.

‘Tundra’ Bean Goose: eight birds were feeding in a field near Skinner’s Farm on 18 December 2004.

Peregrine: singles were seen at BAE Systems radar site on 28 June and 17 July 2007.

Waxwing: singles were seen in Coronation Avenue feeding on a Pyracantha and a Cotoneaster on 25 and 26 November 1999.

What will be the 80th bird?

I have also been able to add Purple Hairstreak to the list of recorded butterflies, taking the total to 19. I saw one feeding on an oak tree along the cycle path on 20 July 2009.
