This Association was founded in 1978, open to the retired employees and their spouses/partners from all the PLESSEY RADAR sites but primarily those from COWES, Isle of Wight. Whether the company in your day was called Decca, Plessey, Siemens-Plessey, Siemens, British Aerospace, AMS or BAE Systems, we welcome all ex-employees. Since the take-over by BAE Systems, qualifying membership has been extended to all ex-employees from any BAE Systems site. To date we have a membership of 57 with eight new members joining this year.
Our programme of monthly meetings has, over the years, seen members entertained by a variety of speakers on subjects as diverse as the “Photography of Julia Margaret Cameron” to comedy scriptwriting by Island resident Raymond Allen of “Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em” fame.
Other activities include quarterly lunch dates at the IW College, an annual post-Christmas Lunch, and visits to local and mainland (Southern England) attractions. We have just returned from a very successful day trip to Highclere Castle which everyone thoroughly enjoyed with beautiful sunny weather.
