NORTHWOOD COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP REPORT

(Eileen Turner-Palmerton, Secretary)

.

After all the bad weather, especially the rain at the start of the week, we all were very worried about our Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Saturday 9th June, 2012. However, we did not have to get our wellies and sou’westers out after all. The sun shone and everyone was very happy down at the Scout Headquarters.
.
When the young people arrived with their families, they were given free caps or party blowers. After the races they were awarded either a Gold or Silver medal and everyone had a certificate, with their name on, to commemorate the day. These were kindly donated by the Army Cadet Force who also organised the races and games. They were kept very busy with camouflage face painting, acting as the Arena party and gate marshals.
.
There was a Bouncy Castle, a wonderful Punch & Judy Show and a Magic Show. Throughout the afternoon the Scouts were on hand to assist with the gate and many other tasks.
.
Throughout the afternoon there were many displays from Northwood Church, Village Produce Association, with their ‘guess the cake weight’ and the Floral Art Group, who also held a competition for the children. The Brownies had a colouring competition. The Army Cadets even found time to have their work on display.
.
Many people were surprised to see a Prison Van on site, but were pleased that no one was being ‘placed in the cells’. Also of great interest was the tank on display, courtesy of the Military Museum.
.
Our ladies from Northwood and Medham W.I.s had been very busy during the week making wonderful cakes for refreshments. The Scouts had fun selling ice-cream and cold drinks.
.
Thanks to Barclays Bank and the ‘cooking staff’ no event would be complete without the smell of the BBQ, making you feel hungry.
.
Our very grateful thanks go to our sponsors – Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s Cowes, Hamilton’s Fine Foods, Military Museum and many others for supporting us.
.
Many thanks are also due to all the organisations for their hard work to make the day an enjoyable time.
.
Most of all, thanks to all who attended, because without you, the event would not have been so successful.
.
