NORTHWOOD COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP REPORT
(Eileen Turner-Palmerton, Secretary)
The Royal Wedding Party, held at the Northwood Scout premises on Saturday 30th April, proved to be a wonderful example of community spirit in action and a perfect example of what the Partnership is set up to try and achieve for the village.
In collaboration with the Scout group we were able to provide villagers and their guests with various entertainment including races for all ages, a Tug-of-War, free Bouncy Castle, sweets and probably the highlight of the day a Punch & Judy Show combined with a Magic Show. This was so well attended that even some children managed to get a seat in the Marquee!
Although some families brought a picnic, there was no shortage of demand for hot dogs, beef burgers and the various drinks on offer.
From feedback we have received, it is obvious that a similar Event would be welcomed for next year.
The Scouts are in agreement with the idea and it is hoped to encourage other local groups to join us to make such an Event an even bigger success.
The undoubted success of this year’s Event was only made possible by the generous support of local and national businesses, Northwood Parish Council and various anonymous benefactors. For this, we give our most genuine thanks. We also wish to acknowledge the support freely given by all those who helped before, during and after the day.
Villagers who attend the monthly Residents Event have requested a visit to Ventnor Botanical Gardens. This is planned for 20th July, subject to demand for seats. Anyone interested in this trip is either welcome to come along to our next Residents Event in the W.I. Hall, Newport Road on Wednesday 15th June from 2.30-4.30 pm or contact any of the people shown at the top of this article to confirm a booking.
By the time this most august publication reaches everyone, the village planters should be resplendent in their summer colours. The ‘Northwood Gnomes’ have not forgotten but the new plants would not be available until the end of May.
At the latest Community Partnership meeting, a decision will have been made as to whether there are sufficient funds to sponsor the annual ‘Northwood in Bloom’ competition.
Nonetheless, the next Partnership meeting is on Tuesday 26th July, at the W.I. Hall, commencing at 7.45pm.
