NORTHWOOD COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP NEWS (Colin Palmerton, Chairman)

Please accept our apologies that the ‘Welcome Pack’ was a little delayed in delivery. As you may appreciate Northwood News is put together some time before publication. Therefore a ‘crystal ball’ was needed. It didn’t quite work! However, every village household should now have their own copy. Feedback has shown that villagers have really appreciated the Pack.

As mentioned in last month’s Northwood News, we are extremely grateful to the Parish Council for obtaining the Grant which made this document possible.

You have, hopefully, noted the inclusion of a Village Trail in the Welcome Pack. As this document was prepared, about 20 members of the Northwood W.I. have just taken advantage of it by undertaking the first formal Walk with the guidance of John Pullen. This was followed by lunch at the Traveller’s Joy Pub.

More great news is that the Trail has been accepted as an entry for the 2010 Isle of Wight Walking Festival. The official walk will be on Friday 14th May 2010, starting from the Horseshoe Pub starting at 10am. The distance will be 8 miles and is scheduled to take 3 hours to complete. The walk will be led by Paul Fuller.

Don’t worry if you haven’t got a diary, yet, for next year. The walk will be mentioned again in the New Year. This Project is a wonderful example of what can be done for our village. Why not try the Walk for yourselves?

The result of the Parish Council and Community Partnership’s objection to illuminated signs in bus shelters is that the County Council will not place them in the village, nor do they have any current plans to replace the existing shelters.

The replacement planters are now in position. If the ‘crystal ball’ and weather permits they should be replanted by the end of October. The new village ‘gateway’ sign has been ordered and delivery is anticipated within 6 weeks.

Although many kind comments are received regarding the plants, there remains a severe lack of help to maintain them. So without any apology, the following is reprinted from October’s edition.

Villagers of any age are needed to ‘Adopt a Pot’ which would help greatly reduce the workload of our ‘Northwood Gnomes’. There is no money cost, just a very small amount of time in looking after the pots by removing weeds, ‘deadheading’ and the like. These small tasks can be done whilst waiting for the bus, walking the dog or popping to the local shops. Many compliments are received regarding the floral displays. Please help us to maintain the enjoyment. Contact any Partnership member for details but make it soon!

If you believe, as a village resident, you should assist with this plea (or have ideas for other Projects), you are most welcome to the next Partnership meeting, on Tuesday, 24th November, 2009, starting at 7.45pm in the Northwood W.I. Hall, Newport Road.
