POLICE REPORT
The police have little to report that has occurred in Northwood this month. The issues that have been reported are either of an anti-social nature or relate to domestic violence; although some residents may be pleased to hear that speeding motorists have been charged, particularly in and around Hillis Gate Road.
The police urge residents that have any concerns or incidents to report to contact them on 0845 045 45 45. Opening times for Cowes Police Station are 10.00 am to 12.30 pm and 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm daily. The police point out these times are dependent upon officers not being called away to deal with incidents. They suggest that if you want to call in to Cowes Police Station, you telephone them first.
WPC Fairweather has reported that Cowes police continue to be very active in dealing with anti-social behaviour from a group of 20-30 youths who are causing problems on Friday and weekend evenings. The police now have additional officers to deal with this.
LOCAL GRANTS FOR LOCAL GROUPS
The Community Partnership is to hold a Grants Committee which offers Financial Assistance to local groups, benefiting Northwood’s community. If you, or your organisation wish to apply, please do so to Eileen Palmerton, 40 Greenways, Northwood, before Monday 7th November.
PARISH PLAN
Northwood is hoping to become the very first “unparished” area in the world (!?) to be successful in applying to the Rural Community Council for a grant for a Parish Plan.
If you care about the village, its past and most importantly its future, and have something to offer (no matter how big or small), contact Cllr. Roger Mazillius on 01983 295556 who is kick-starting this initiative.
Roger has made it clear from the outset that this Plan belongs to and should be led by the local community, rather than by himself. Please, please, please become involved if you have concerns over the urbanisation of the village, traffic issues, crime and disorder issues, or anything which YOU believe would make Northwood a better place to live. I recall once being told that you do not miss what you have, until it’s lost; in other words waiting for that planning application to be built next door to you, opposite you or on top of you will be too late, if you don’t act now! Public meetings and questionnaires to follow …
NORTHWOOD WEBSITE
Now not only can you read the useful information / good stuff / rubbish (delete as appropriate!) I write in Northwood News and the Cowes Beacon, but you can also see it on the very fine www.northwoodvillage.org.ukwebsite, alongside articles from Northwood School, Northwood Church and our very own Councillor Mazillius!! I will also endeavour to update next month’s Northwood News with useful community and social sites which can be linked to directly from the Website. Furthermore Grant Application information and info concerning the Northwood Community Plan can be viewed on-line so that you can keep up to date with how we spend your Partnership’s money, wherever you are on the planet (almost).
YOUR COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP … YOUR FUTURE
Roger has asked me to give notice, in advance of his next Report, that from next April the Isle of Wight Council is expected to cease funding Community Partnerships. Instead Roger anticipates that all “unparished” areas, including Northwood, will have a precept on top of Council Tax. Unless we form our own Parish Council, the precept in all probability will go in to the Council Coffers rather than being spent in Northwood. In the meantime Roger and myself welcome views which residents have concerning forming a Parish Council for the village. Our next public meeting on 2nd DECEMBER will give further insight into the proposals of the Council.
