Summary of Recent Parish Council Meeting(s)

The Full Council met on March 2nd. The Planning Meeting scheduled for March 16th was cancelled due to lack of business. At the meeting of March 2nd, topics discussed included

• Reports from the Local Safer Neighbourhood Officer (P.C. Mark Thomas)  and the Environment and Neighbourhood Officer (ENO) for Northwood  (Jacqui Darby). The latter focussed on dogs and dog nuisance – including  fouling and noise.

• The future of the allotment site at New House Farm and the potential  availability of a replacement site.

• Two planning applications.

• The pros and cons of setting up a team of local volunteers, such as might  have been instrumental in the recent adverse weather.

• The bus network provision in Northwood

• A further Big Tidy Up event

• Arrangements for the Parish Council Elections to be held in May

• Reports from the Housing Needs Working Party and the Play Builder  Working Party

• The report from the IWC Ward Member, Cllr Mazillius

• Correspondence received

Annual Parish Meeting

All Parish and Town Councils throughout England are required by law to hold an Annual Parish Meeting on a date between 1st March and 1st June of each year.  The purpose of calling this meeting is so that the Parish Council and other community organizations can explain what they have been doing over the last year. Any person can attend this meeting, which also provides an opportunity for a registered local elector to make suggestions and have their say on anything which they consider is important in the parish.
Northwood Parish Council has therefore made arrangements for the second Annual Parish Meeting of Northwood to be held on Tuesday 20th April 2010 in Northwood Primary School, Wyatts Lane, Northwood commencing at 6.30pm. It has been confirmed that the keynote speaker is to be Mr Jay Jayasundara, of the IW Council, who will provide an update on the Highways PFI and will respond to questions.

The following reports are those of the named contributors, and any views expressed do not necessarily reflect those of Northwood Parish Council.

Elections 2010 (Cllr Cramp, 01983 289996)

The General Election will probably take place on 6th May, the same date as Parish Elections in Ryde, Newport, Whippingham, and Northwood (along with many other parishes in the UK). This is good. It would
• save money.
• save voters going to the Polling Station twice.
• probably mean more votes cast in the Parish Elections.

But wait! For some reason, Central Government legislation forbids Parish Elections being held on the same day as a General Election! Special legislation has applied when this has happened in the past. Therefore, if the General Election is held on 6th May, the Parish Elections will have to be postponed for 3 weeks, resulting in
• more expense (especially for Parish Councils).
• voters having to go to the Polling Station twice.
• less votes cast in the Parish Elections.

Neighbourhood Watch Report (Cllr Pullen, 01983 281250)
At the Parish Council meeting on March 2nd, PC Mark Thomas reported no serious crime problems in Northwood. One area of concern that we do have is reported incidents of damage to hedges. This is normally caused by young people jumping on the hedge and flattening it down. The local Safer Neighbourhood Police Team have been informed and will monitor as they go around. Please report any incidents to the Police or to me.

I have a small supply of No Cold Calling window stickers if anybody needs one. Please let me know of any incidents of people cold calling, or ring Trading Standards on 01983 823370.
