Cameras to identify home heat loss

A revolutionary energy efficiency detecting vehicle will be on the Isle of Wight from 16th November as part of the Island Insulation scheme run by the Isle of Wight Council and E.ON.

A HeatSeeker vehicle will use thermal-imaging technology to pinpoint escaping heat and identify homes that may benefit from improved insulation.

Operating at night while temperatures are cooler, the HeatSeeker vehicle has the ability to assess up to 1,000 properties an hour. It will work between 8pm and midnight and travel at a speed of approximately 10mph in order to obtain accurate images.

The system can't see through walls or windows and will only identify heat loss purely to help householders save energy.

Once an area has been completed, homes that show significant heat loss will be shown a personalised thermal report with information about the Island Insulation scheme and how to arrange a no-obligation survey.

Keith Hewitson, Director of HeatSeekers said: "Our technology has already helped to improve energy efficiency in thousands of homes across the country. The HeatSeekers vehicle is one of the key front-line tools in the battle against climate change and is already playing an integral role in the plans to make homes in the UK more energy efficient."

Cllr Edward Giles, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for the environment and transport said: "The HeatSeekers vehicle is an excellent way to identify quickly homes that may benefit from insulation. By working with E.ON, HeatSeekers and insulation installation experts Mark Group, we have been able to offer Island residents a great opportunity to get low-cost loft and cavity wall insulation which will keep people warmer during the winter and lower energy bills. This will also help in the all-important task of reducing the Island's carbon footprint."

To find out more about Island Insulation or to arrange a survey please call E.ON on 0800 015 2475 (Monday to Friday between 08:30 and 17:00) or by visiting www.iwight.com/islandinsulation.
