The Report appearing in the April 2020 edition of Northwood News:
.
Pallance Road Safety Measures Update
A survey has been carried out and I have been assured that the process of implementation is underway, but I cannot get any dates in time for this article, sorry.
.
Local Policing Update
For residents who have been concerned at the recent news regarding the apprehension of criminal drug involvement in the Northwood area, I am assured by our local police that they have this situation well under control, and it is as a result of local intelligence that the current operations and convictions have been made.
.
I think that we all agree that Northwood is, by and large, a peaceful and law-abiding community, and one that certainly does not welcome antisocial or criminal behaviour. Thank you to anyone who reports such concerns.
.
Some residents have questioned the policy of housing associations that place such people who are anti-social, lawbreakers, or involved in drug misuse in our midst, and I have raised such concerns with them before. Again, I have the assurance of the police that housing associations are kept up to date with concerns that the police may have in regard to unlawful behaviour. So please, do continue to report any concerns that you have.
.
Cowes/ Northwood Place Plan Commencement
The Northwood/ Cowes joint Place Plan commencement is set to launch on the 18th March at an event where wider stakeholders from the marine leisure and commercial operations, heritage organisations, businesses operating in the area, voluntary organisations, Health Commissioners, Schools, Cabinet Members and local Councillors are all invited.
.
Our Place Plan aims to be all-inclusive, with an underpinning endorsement of Public Health running through it. The Place Plan will be an unprecedented opportunity to align and extol our wonderful and unique area heritage, our commercial and leisure organisations, our businesses and schools.
.
Happy to Chat Benches
Northwood Parish and Cowes Town Councils are joined in running the Happy to Chat initiative, partnering with our Hospital, IW Council and Island Roads. You will see signs on selected benches around Northwood and Cowes public benches inviting people to sit on them if they are happy to chat. The initiative is intended to combat loneliness and aligns with the present international campaign to encourage people to talk with each other.
.
Not all benches will bear the sign, because, after all, some people may just want to sit without chatting, but we will see how it will be received. The Hospital thought it was such a good idea that they are going to use it throughout the hospital and grounds.
.
Please give feedback to any of the supporting organisations on how you find the initiative.

Health Advice
There is plenty of advice being given on the current Coronavirus issue, some of it originating from unofficial sources and might be quite misleading. You cannot catch this virus from drinking Corona beer or eating Chinese food (I have overheard both being seriously suggested).
.
• Best advice is to wash your hands regularly with soap and warm tap water
• If you need to blow your nose cough or sneeze, catch it in a tissue and bin it.
• Avoid shaking hands or wash your hands after.
• Think twice and check before travelling away or going to crowded places unnecessarily.
• If you are, or live with, someone who is frail or has a low immune system, then avoid as much risk of exposure through uncontrolled contact (people, surfaces, places) as possible.
• For the normal, healthy person, I understand that the effect is just like a cold and will pass.
