Cowes-Deauville Twinning Association

Cowes has been twinned with Deauville in the north-west of France for 56 years and groups from both towns have visited one another over the years with members of each group hosting the other. Some members have been in the group from the very beginning and friendships have been made and cemented through a regular coming together in shared purpose. Unfortunately, 2020 will be an exception but for very good reason. The Coronavirus has, in effect, stopped the world in its tracks and the very thing that has brought us together in the past, travel, is now the very thing that spreads the virus. So it is with great regret that we have taken the decision to postpone the visit from our friends in Deauville this year and rearrange for 2021.

As with many others, the group is moving online and will continue to meet, albeit virtually, and through the medium of those many popular platforms on offer, continue to work in support of the aims of the respective groups; the promotion and understanding between people, their culture, their traditions and organisations and their social life. As we all learn the value of the virtual world and learn how to make the best of what we can now achieve, we will aim to have a virtual twinning event for 2020. Life goes on, as the saying goes and we remain open for business but in a new format and so if you have an interest in joining the twinning association, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We would love to hear from you. At a time of increasing isolation, it is important that we reach out to one another and support one another and we would welcome new members.
