Report from 3rd September 2015
.
Mrs Fay Bunday welcomed members to the meeting. Fay then introduced our speaker Mark Earp, who, because he had a meeting to attend later in the afternoon gave his presentation, “Eccentric Women on the Wight”, first. His talk accompanied by slides was very, very interesting and amusing. It started with Lucy Lightfoot in the 1300s through to Doris O’Grady, who in 1940 was accused of Sabotage on the Island and was imprisoned for a number of years. Mark had us in fits of laughter with his anecdotes on all of the women, one of whom had been married numerous times and several marriages were blessed by the same clergyman!!
.
After our break for tea, the competition results were announced – Unusual Candle – 1st Anne Jonas with an Owl and 2nd Josie White with a matching cup & saucer, the candle being in the cup. Best Garden Bloom – Joint first Annie Cooper and Josie White.
.
Apologies were received from several ladies and an update on Joan Furnell, who unfortunately suffered a stroke, was given.  Joan is progressing quite well and hopes to be home soon.
.
The next Craft Afternoon will be on the 17th September and thanks were given to Judeth Baker for hosting the last one in her home.
.
Final arrangements were made for the Ploughman’s Lunch on the 10th September.
.
Birthday cards were given to the ladies who celebrate their birthdays in September. These were – Anne Jonas on the 11th, Fay Bunday on the 13th, Judeth Baker on the 20th and Elisabeth Hamilton on the 28th. (Funnily all four are on the committee!!) Plants were also presented to Fay and Elisabeth whose birthday ages ended with a 0.
.
The correspondence, finances and hall bookings were all given.
.
The next month’s meeting will be another “upside down” meeting as the entertainment will be first. They are Chris & Clive Rickards.
.
Next year in January, Northwood W.I. celebrate their 90th Birthday.  Hopefully we will be going out to the Holmwood Hotel for our Lunch. This will be on the 26th as this is the day Northwood W.I. first formed.
.
Reminders were given to members about the Table Top Sale on the 24th October and the Christmas Fair on the 21st November.
.
With no other business the meeting closed at 4pm.

.

Here is a short report on the Lunch & Games:
.
22 ladies, including fellow W.I. members from Carisbrooke and Freshwater Central sat down to a Ploughman’s Lunch of either ham or cheese with salads, an assortment of pickles, Bread Rolls and butter and homemade coleslaw. The sweets were a choice of various gateaux with cream. The ladies then played “Shut the Box” and Scrabble.  After a cup of tea and biscuits we all played the game “Hoy” which was enjoyed very much by everyone.  Prizes for the first one out was a bar of Chocolate!
.
With all the washing up done the afternoon ended at about 4pm.

.

Best wishes

.
Anne Jonas
