If it did not sound highfaluting, I would say I was inspired, which in my case would mean that, as with my poetry, an idea had entered my head and would not go away until I did something about it. This time the idea was strengthened by an article in the Sunday Times that stated current writers for children were polluting their literature as others had contaminated books for adults. I thought therefore, that if I could write an entertaining book that by example would turn children’s thoughts back to obedience, respect for parents, etc., I would have done something worthwhile. Added to that, I confess, was the possibility that having a novel published would enhance my reputation as a writer.
