Aeons ago at flowing Time’s far source,
from astral parent rudely torn,
like Jovian bolt, a minor star was born,
through Space to run its lonely course.
Across the illimitable, echoing far,
floats the quiet song of a lonely star.
Centuries passed, and into Virgin Night,
engendered by mighty cosmic power,
with comets as playthings and nebulae as bower,
was sent another star of glorious light.
Across the illimitable, echoing far,
floats the happy song of a new-born star.
Along the fleeting years their orbits neared,
then briefly together they blissfully travelled,
and while dual destinies as one were unravelled,
by brighter light the lesser star was cheered.
Across the illimitable, echoing far,
floats the joyous song of a happy star.
Decreed by Fate, a sudden parting came,
to splendid constellation turned
the brighter star, nor knew there yearned
a friend whose heart enshrined a treasured name.
Across the illimitable, echoing far,
floats the last sad song of a waning star.
