Bedded tho’ Thou art in straw,
humble as companion kine,
still Thy power to enthrall
testifies Thou art divine.
Holy Child, sleep in bliss
till the dawn Thy cheeks shall kiss,
Adoration, Thine by right,
the Magi give to Thee this night:
acknowledging with joy elate
the sanctity in Thee innate.
Holy Child in slumber sound,
throughout the watches of the night
Thy presence blesses all around,
illumined by Thy halo’s light.
Holy Child, sleep in bliss, etc.
Almighty God, if we would err
and from the path of virtue stray,
let to our vagrant minds recur
thoughts of that Christmas Day.
Holy Child, sleep in bliss, etc.
