The scene of garb grotesque and odd attire,
expressly donned to bid the eye admire
the cynosures of those who stand and gape
at fashions they will doubtless wish to ape.
’Twould seem that in absurdity they vie
to captivate the photographic eye,
for every would-be social star well kens
a road to fame lies through the focal lens.
The scene where paint and powder fail their task,
of cov’ring what ’twere kinder far to mask.
Where loud and pompous words too oft announce
the ‘charming’ Mrs Brag or Mr Bounce,
whose voices vary magnitude of tone
inversely as the size of craft they own.
With arrogance they posture and parade,
to imitate the caste their acts defame;
then by their eccentricities betrayed,
their paucity of intellect proclaim.
