Punch bowls on the table steaming,
holly in the firelight gleaming,
children long abed now dreaming
hear the sleigh bells chime.
Stage coach on its journey rolling,
through the snow drifts safely trolling,
with post-horn tally-ho-ing
that it is on time.
Carollers so sweetly singing,
Jack Frost to their garments clinging,
with the plangent hand-bells ringing
harmony sublime.
Midnight and the stained glass glowing,
beckoning the high and low in
where naught but candle light’s bestowing
rays on Babe and kine.
