Bid maidens fair bring rarest wine,
with rarer blooms their hair entwine,
while slaves with measured grace enhance
the marble grandeur where they dance.
Let diamonds from some Aztec hoard,
with gold and crystal deck the board,
on which each epicurean dish
may satisfy the wildest wish.
Bring merchants rich with sumpter mules,
to offer gifts of jade and jewels,
of Indian silk and Persian scent,
and lacquer from the Orient;
carved ivory in silver set,
with ebony of deepest jet.
Let notes from cymbals, lute, and lyre,
a spirit of revelry inspire;
the many guests to entertain
while natal celebrations reign.
