Who is game for a cruise in the old hard way,
to an island of evil repute?
Up the Gulf, nor’-nor’-west of San Carlos Bay,
where the tuna, the whale, and the manta ray
share the Spanish Conquistadors’ route.
Who will come for a trip in a Mexican ship,
with the motto: ‘To pump is to float’?
And a skipper to trust just as far as you must,
plus a crew not unskilled at a quick upward thrust,
for a gringo they want to ‘out’-vote.
There are bones left to bleach on a sinister beach,
and the brush is infested with rattlers;
there are stories long-told of a vein rich with gold,
whether true, whether false, let our future unfold –
on the island where dead men aren’t tattlers.
