A paradox at Christmas;
explain it, if you can,
entirely to satisfy
a five-year-old young man,
who knows his eight-times table,
who recognises fibs,
who favours Mick McManus –
invents some choice ad-libs.
Who beats his Dad at Ludo
by many artful moves –
a super-swift perception
that instantly reproves
the slightest deviation
from Lewis Carroll’s text,
and ‘skipping’ in the Jungle Books –
just watch it if he’s vexed!
This paradox – resolve it,
for one who ‘knows the score’:
the different old Santa
in each department store.
