Busy the swing in describing its arc,
bends low a branch of our old apple-tree –
safely-tied ropes, while abrading the bark,
creak with complaint at the load – six-stone three.
Halted the swing for a youth-age exchange,
placid three-score to his digging gives pause –
flowers of fancy – a nine-year old’s range,
proffer a “Why?” and demand a “Because”.
Dainty and dappled with tree-filtered light,
auburn-haired Linda is working like steam –
loving each moment of to and fro flight,
prettier pendulum never was seen.
