If you’re hoping to plan your own rocket emprise,
out to Betelgeuse (horrible word!);
don’t forget that a Doctor of Science relies
on the formulae learnt in the Third:
when neglecting quadratic equations for sport,
and to cricket from Euclid you run,
think – athletic achievements upon a report
will not get a degree for you, Son.
You will never go far towards planet or star,
nor your space-ship from gravity free,
unless z, y, and x, in those problems that vex,
seem as simple as A, B, and C.
