Hispanicized she stands:
with arms akimbo there
she flaunts her lacework flounces –
conspiratorially black –
all sequined and suggestive of
romance in Cordova.
Befringed and patterned to
a Spanish scheme, a rug,
behind her tilted head,
in sherry hues and woven sun-glow:
and under an extended foot,
its counterpart.
While sejant on the focal edge,
a lion, white, in pottery,
ignores the camera.
From Kairos – Selected Poems No 1, a book of Mr Hudson’s poetry.
Kairos means “opportune moment”.
