Say no wanton word –
let me go cherishing
the innocence of past
associations as a
knight his lady’s
guerdon.

Say no wanton word –
let me go lest love’s
demands, illicit,
exigent, defeat our
resolution.

Say no wanton word –
let me cut all ties,
no Joseph fleeing
Potiphar’s wife.
Break no illusion
held intact, but
let me, with honour,
leave – still worshipping.
