My thoughts of you are as the wing
of butterfly or velvet rose;
as multi-hued as where the spring,
its sun-pierced spray in glory throws,
with gentle cadences to sing
of realms none but the poet knows.
My thoughts of you make calm my heart,
when night holds wingéd death and pain;
and I to caverned gloom depart,
in solitude to entertain
those fancies sweet that lightly dart,
caressing soft the troubled brain.
