I heard wise men debate
the true identity of Christ,
and found the gist of their
polemics lost, too soon,
in sheer profundity.
Yet, all agreed that once
He lived – a fact confirmed
by pagan scripts.
But on His status none
concurred. An anarchist?
The Son of God? A fraud?
A joiner’s gifted son?
Messiah? Mystic? Born,
yet not conceived by man?
The age-old question marks
hung unerased.
And then a woman’s voice
proclaimed that He comprised
as much of God as man
with finitude of mind
may comprehend – and all,
to me, was clear.
Let carols laud His name!
