If all the world is just a stage,
as the Bard of Avon sings,
how difficult, indeed, the role
allotted to the kings.
Exalted, high above the great,
remote and lone they stand,
to guide the argosy of State
with steady sceptred hand.
When duty’s path would deviate,
from the sovereign’s inmost will,
who shall judge if kings be men
and men’s desire fulfil?
