Filling our hearts with unwonted elation,
regally ruling the amateur stage;
calling to mind’s eye the darlings of Daly’s,
women who graced the Edwardian age;
dealing in moonshine, theatrical magic,
charming the eye and delighting the ear,
fêted by mashers – young men-about-mischief,
piquant, provoking, supreme in their sphere:
Anna Glavari, an heiress to millions,
chosen to further the Fatherland’s cause;
soignée in sable, from hat down to footwear,
merits much more than unstinted applause.
And much superior poetry!
