VILLETTE REMEMBERED

We too have hoped and had our day-dreams
shattered as a fragile glass fragmented by
a note in alt.
Again to strive while ego yet compelled –
that tortured form, our resolution, nailed
upon the cross of our ideals, in silent hells
to walk alone or, being loved, lose all
to Kismet’s cruel ploys, our own myopic traits,
or else the spinning ball in life’s roulette that
seals our fate.
We too have cherished seeds of friendship cast
upon the tilth of our emotions – poured
the wishful-thought elixir till they burgeoned
into blossoms of undying love.
And now bereft of hope we know
a partnership in tears with Lucy Snowe.
